What is HALAL Certification?
HALAL Certification is a comprehensive quality management system that verifies whether products and services are produced, processed, and presented in accordance with Islamic rules. It ensures that food safety, hygiene, production processes, and raw materials are evaluated based on Halal criteria. A HALAL certificate enhances consumer trust and increases brand preference in both domestic and international markets.
Who Can Apply for HALAL Certification?
HALAL Certification can be applied across many sectors, including food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, cleaning products, packaging, and logistics. Any facility that operates in accordance with Islamic principles and aims to be present in the Halal market can implement this system. Especially for export-oriented companies, HALAL certification provides a strong competitive advantage.
How to Obtain a HALAL Certificate?
Companies wishing to obtain HALAL Certification must first apply to an accredited certification body. The process consists of the following steps:
- Application: The company submits the required documentation and information.
- Pre-Assessment: An initial audit is conducted by expert teams.
- On-Site Audit: The production facility is inspected on location.
- Reporting & Approval: Based on audit results, the certificate is issued.
During the certification process, compliance with standards such as GMP, HACCP, and ISO is also evaluated.
How to Verify a HALAL Certificate?
To ensure the authenticity of a HALAL certificate:
- Confirm that the issuing body is authorized and accredited.
- Verify the certificate number via the certification body’s official website.
- Carefully check the validity period and scope of the certificate.
How Long is the HALAL Certificate Valid?
HALAL certification is valid for 3 years. However, in order to maintain its validity, annual surveillance audits must be carried out. These audits assess the effectiveness of the system and continuous improvement efforts.
At the end of 3 years, a re-certification process is required. The entire system is audited again, and if found compliant, the certificate is renewed.
Note: Failure to undergo the required annual surveillance audits will result in the cancellation of the certificate.
